Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning™

Though the first day of the working week is typically despised by most intelligent lifeforms — especially Garfield — we’ve got something to look forward to this coming Monday. Following information about Game Informer’s feature article on LittleBigPlanet 2, Media Molecule Tweeted that the game is, in fact, real, and that we can expect “full mega details on Monday.”

Details supposedly culled from the Game Informer feature have already found their way online, but we think we can wait another 48 hours for the first-hand skinny.

[Thanks Luis!]

Telltale has sent over some media from Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse‘s second episode, The Tomb of Sammun-Mak, which takes the duo down a decidedly gentlemanly path. Sure, there’s only the one in-game screenshot where Sam is sporting some bushy whiskers (good show, old boy!) but there’s still other items to leisurely peruse, perhaps while sipping a fine Earl Grey tea. There are also several pieces of art for your eyes to appreciate, including a posh train and rather down-on-his-luck-looking Max, if that’s more to your liking.

So, put on your most dashing outfit and be sure to head into our gallery for a sophisticated look at the upcoming episode. Tally-ho!

Speaking with the[a]listdaily, 2K Games‘ Matt Gorman and Tom Bass discussed the marketing strategy behind BioShock 2. With BioShock being one of the best games of 2007, Bass saw its legacy as both “a blessing and a curse” for the sequel. The challenge was twofold, according to Bass, who said that 2K had to sell the game to fans who “weren’t convinced that they needed a sequel” and also to newcomers who might not have been familiar with the original.

At the same time, BioShock 2 was given much more attention from retailers thanks to the success of its predecessor. “With the second one, retail was super stoked for it and just the level of presence we were given was amazing,” said Gorman, adding that the community built around the original helped to “evangelize” the sequel. Finally, Gorman said that the team was happy with the reception of BioShock 2, noting, “There were few times you could turn around and not see BioShock 2 during February.”

Although we like to think that everyone wins a gold place medal for job well done, this week’s webcomic poll has ended and first place went to NerfNow’s “Lottery.” Aside from being topical and hilarious, we found the punchline simply heartwarming — didn’t you? Also, it took just over 40 percent of the entire poll’s votes. Hey now!

Second and third place were taken by Virtual Shackles’ “How a Bill Becomes a Law” and Another Video Game Webcomic’s untitled offering, respectively. Congrats to the winners — your nonexistent prize is in the mail, but your swelling pride is available right now. If you have a webcomic you think needs listing in this week’s wrapup, don’t hesitate to send us a tip!

Pre-rendered game trailers may not do a very good job of preparing us for actual gameplay, but it’s hard to beat good CG for setting the mood. Case in point: The intro trailer to Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands. We’ve got the Prince, a mysterious woman, a massive battle, daring leaps and one of the faintest goatees in gaming history. See it all in the trailer above.

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands hits consoles on May 18 with a PC version to follow in June.

Mobigame’s acclaimed cube-rolling iPhone puzzle game Edge has been removed and reinstated from the App Store several times thanks to ongoing legal troubles relating to Tim Langdell’s aggressive claims to the word “Edge” in video games. Mobigame has now reacquired the rights to publish the game in the US and UK, which is great news for two reasons:

  1. You can buy the game now (obviously)
  2. To celebrate its return, Mobigame has dropped the price to 99 cents

The price is only good through May 10, so if you’re interested, now’s a good time to check it out. Besides, who knows how long it’ll stay available this time? Check out a trailer after the break.

When we last saw Alpha Protocol, protagonist Michael Thorton was being formally introduced. Now, just two days later, he’s pulverizing and/or murdering everything in his sight. The latest trailer, as you might have guessed, features Thorton in a variety of combat scenarios, showing off some Splinter Cell: Conviction-esque pistol takedowns and American Ninja-esque karate moves.

Immediately after watching the clip, we felt inclined to alert Mr. Thorton to one very important protip when engaging in hand-to-hand combat: leaping through the air at someone only to introduce your knee to their face is not the most effective way to start a fight. Just a thought! At very least, you kids shouldn’t try pulling that off at home. Maybe in Alpha Protocol when it releases on June 1, but not physically in your home.

It sounds like that high-stakes game of Blackjack might not be necessary in deciding the producer of Resident Evil 6. In an interview with Xbox World 360 magazine (via online affiliate CVG), Resident Evil 5 and Lost Planet 2 producer Jun Takeuchi acknowledged his intent to give up a possible leadership role in developing the next installment in the series.

“Personally, I don’t think I’m gonna deal with Resident Evil 6 at all,” Takeuchi explained, “as far as the series is concerned I’m not planning to return until at least two more Olympics have passed!” You mean … in four years? (Why couldn’t he just say “in four years?”)

Well then, we hope to hear more about the future of Resident Evil in just 1/24th of an Olympics calendar. Which is to say, in June, at E3 2010.

The Halo: Reach beta is on, like, so on. Today we were introduced to something a little bit more team-oriented with Invasion mode. Remember that the Reach beta ends on May 19, so just keep reachin’ out for those Halo hits while you can, because that multi-month withdrawal is going to be brutal.

What’s everyone playing this weekend?

Ask anybody who was old enough to go through the life cycle of the first PlayStation and they’ll likely have an opinion on which Final Fantasy was the best. And “soon,” a whole new generation will be able to engage in that most stimulating of debates, with the PlayStation Blog confirming that Final Fantasy IX will be the third “proper” PlayStation-era Final Fantasy game available for download on PSN, joining siblings Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII.

Joystiq itself takes no part in the ongoing war for supremacy each title is unwillingly engaged in. We simply aim to enjoy the good parts of each. But that doesn’t mean you can’t battle it out in this here poll!
