SeenE3 The Persona 4 Arena stick that never was

During E3, we met with Atlus to check out Persona 4 Arena, among other things, and upon sitting down at the small table in our private presentation room we were surprised to find a P4A arcade stick waiting for us. Immediately, our hearts were all a-flutter with the prospect of a nice limited edition arcade stick.

“There is an official HORI stick in Japan,” Aram Jabbari told us, “but this is a Mad Catz that we’ve customized. There is no official North American stick at this time,” and as quickly as they had arisen, our hopes were quickly dashed. Jabbari, who is Atlus’ Manager of PR and Sales, said we could post about the stick so long as we promised not to insinuate that it was a real product, or that it was ever going to be released. So! Expect to see it on store shelves before the end of the month.

(But seriously, there is no North American stick at this time.)

The classic Game Boy Color title ignored by many is inching closer to its 3DS VC release. WayForward has said that Shantae is currently in the hands of the ESRB. Once they make a rating decision, the game will be passed onto Nintendo for placement on the service.

“Although, this game has a map to explore it is not really a Metroidvania. It is very much an action combat game based on the Lords of Shadow universe. One of the things people really liked about Castlevania: Lords of Shadow was the combat aspect of it. Mixing up strategies, using light and shadow magic, sub weapons, and things like that. So, we beefed that up. Our audience was telling us they wanted a bigger exploration element to the game, so we added a more traditional exploration side. I think the inspiration really comes from [Castlevania III:] Dracula’s Curse and not Metroidvania. It’s more about multi-branching pathways, the ability to go back and explore other area of the castle as other characters. It’s definitely not Metroidvania.” – Dave Cox, Head of Product Planning and Development at Konami

I honestly don’t care what the inspiration is behind the game. I absolutely loved what I played and can’t wait for the final product!
