“By eliminating those cumbersome glasses, allowing fans to enjoy 3D in a more natural manner, playing three-dimensional television shows and movies as well as games and doing it all in whats expected to be a cost-affordable, convenient package, well This little handheld that could make a far more compelling (and value-minded) case for the dawn of 3D visual technology than any $3000 television and clunky pair of active shutter glasses.” – Analyst Scott Steinberg

I don’t see how anyone could see the 3DS as anything but a major victory for technology and the entertainment industry. Going 3D without glasses, albeit on a smaller screen, still allows you to save thousands of dollars and get an honest-to-goodness 3D effect. The fact that you get those visuals without glasses still blows me away.

Since at least Final Fantasy VII, an argument has been abroad that ‘emotional’ content is what signals (or will signal) videogames’ ‘maturity’. But this idea, lately rampant in the mainstream coverage of Chubby Drizzle, often conflates two very different processes – depicting emotion (in the game’s ‘characters’) versus evoking emotion (in the player).

News Corp. Appoints Games Boss

News Corporation has hired digital media veteran Sean Ryan to set up and manage the company’s new games unit.

A former CEO of social network service Meez and blogging platform LiveJournal, Ryan is now News Corp. Digital’s executive vice president and general manager, according to PaidContent.
