Game pricing is probably the most screwed up part of the game industry. You can buy a game on the iPhone App Store for 99 cents, or you can buy a brand-new title on the Wii for $50. Seriously, I know that there’s a big difference in content there, but is it really worth that much more? The industry needs to step back and realize just how screwy their pricing system is, before consumers decide to bow out.

We’ve already learned that Pac-Man was going to star in an animated series. We also saw some teaser footage of the show. Now we are hearing that the series has been picked up for 26 episodes, and will air sometime in 2012. Also, we now know that the series is going to be in 3D. Let’s hope that makes up for the quality of the show, as what we saw didn’t seem all that promising!

“The Game industry is very similar. The West is very motivated. The younger generation of Japan is losing. The designers and to-be-designers in the West have the focus, ambition, and ability to make their dream become true. So it is not the Japanese technology or culture that is losing, we are lacking the motivation. The engineering population in Japan may be in jeopardy. We should first review our education system here in Japan. Lately I have come to conclusion that, with highly motivated foreigners… it doesn’t matter where they are from, working with highly motivated indiviuals is the only way to move forward. I am tired of taking care of people who do not have the passion. Time is used differently between people who have and don’t have motivation. They are willing to learn and study on their own. The reason why the programmer plays “COD” during his cherished lunch time is because he likes gaming more than anything. Even if I am busy, even if I have to sacrifice something, I would… for movies and books. Saying you don’t have time because of work, using work as an excuse, will not help you grow. Creating abilities, at it’s core, is reliant on your love for the creation.” – Hideo Kojima

Man, Kojima is getting all fired up! Perhaps this will kick some other Eastern devs into gear. Japan certainly needs a boot to the butt in order to get them back where they used to be, or at least compete on the same level.

“The reality is that we were not able to develop all versions of the game simultaneously, since making the Japanese version alone proved to be a huge challenge for u. From there, we had more than a million letters of Japanese text to translate, which explains the delay between the release of the various versions.” – Square Enix’s Ryutaro Ichimura

A year is indeed a pretty long time to wait, but there’s a ton of localization that needs to go into these products. Hopefully you guys find Dragon Quest IX to be worth the wait!

- game isn’t finished yet
- may be some differences between E3 demo and final game
- there will be tools to help players tackle hackers
- expect something along the lines of a ‘kick’ or ‘report’ option
- there may be something implemented to keep players from jumping over and over again
- may be tweaks to reticle design and accuracy
- no word on PDP headset bundle

Thanks to Chased for the heads up!
